“Katie is a fantastic tutor. She recently worked with my daughter on ACT prep. She saw her potential for success and developed individualized strategies based on my daughter’s learning strengths and style. Katie has an incredible ability to connect with students and works with the “whole child”- not only does she teach content and test taking strategies but also pays close attention to the student’s emotional needs, addressing test anxiety and test prep burn out. I highly recommend Katie.”
“Her enthusiasm for the course is blatantly apparent. She loves the information she teaches and her passion is a motivator for me to want to learn more. Constantly encouraging conversation and hearing students out and questioning us to think further and more clearly. My favorite class this semester by far.”
“Katherine Patterson was one of the best professors I've had at school thus far. Her approach to classroom activities and making sure we were all interested and engaged was unmatched in my opinion.”
“Professor Patterson has been one of my favorite teachers at FIT so far. She is understanding, engaging, knowledgeable, and patient making the class enjoyable in all aspects. She helps others learn and come to the answers on their own, even if it is something we've gone over multiple times she keeps her composure and patiently explains the material again. I've taken environmental courses before but she pushes her students to look deeper into the environmental issues and how it affects the world as a whole. She is an amazing person and I loved her teaching style.”
“Katherine Patterson was a great professor that always went above and beyond to make sure everyone understood and paid attention. I always knew I had to participate when I came into class which made me pay attention and learn more than I thought I would. I had a new found appreciation for Ecology as a subject and the environment as a whole. I really appreciate what she did as a professor especially in a pandemic!”
“Professor Patterson is a perfect professor, she explains materials thoroughly and checks in with students every class.”
“I absolutely loved this class! I'm not the best at science and I felt a bit intimidated by the course, but as the semester progressed I found myself understanding the information and if I didn't understand any of the material, such as the readings assigned before class, when class began concepts were explained further. I also really liked the doing the case study of one and conducting the research myself because it showed the real life implications of our actions and what we could do in our personal lives to live sustainably.”
“She is super nice which make it very easy to ask and answer questions. She’s definitely one of those professors who just make the class more interesting and fun with her attitude.”
“Enjoyable, insightful class - learned a lot in an organized means this semester.”
“Professor Patterson is so sweet and attentive to the students’ understanding of the material. This course is hefty on science, and many of us haven’t taken science in years. Though she made all of the material make sense and relevant to our everyday lives! We had very meaningful, impactful, and knowledgeable discussions about ecological and environmental problems.”
“By far my favorite professor I've had at FIT. She is encouraging and always pushes students to be involved with the class, even during this tough time. I learned something new every class and she is always keeping things interesting. There may be more work but well worth it. I don't get many professors at FIT that inspire the way that she has. Amazing person and professor.”
“I loved this class and the professor! She is so passionate and she works very hard to make sure that all of her students understand the material. She explains things in depth, and she creates a very open environment for students to ask questions and start discussions. I especially love that she encourages discussion among all of the students, no matter how much knowledge they already have on the topic. Many classes I take, I feel that only those who come into the class very knowledgable about the topic feel comfortable participating in discussions, which goes against the reason we take the classes in the first place. She uses discussion as a way to make sure we are understanding the material, which not only helps everyone learn and be successful, but it also promotes a better environment for everyone. She is very open to our suggestions on how to improve her class, and she is very receptive to our responses. She is always bettering the class for us now, and for future classes, and this is what I love. The transition to online learning was relatively seamless, and she was very helpful the entire way. I did not feel like the quality of this class was compromised as much as some of my others were after being moved online. Overall, I loved this course. I was already very interested in the material coming in, but leaving the class, I feel like I have learned valuable information and I feel motivated to participate more in discussions in my future courses because of the environment created here.”
“Professor Patterson is the best professor I've had since being at FIT. On top of being a constructive and patient professor, something actively shown throughout her teaching, she was very caring and consistent. She made it a clear point to let us know that she understood the struggles some of us were going through regarding online learning and how our home lives have been altered due to this change. Truly an all-around great professor and a great example of how emotional awareness in the classroom can positively change the dynamic of the classroom, and as a result potentially the quality of the student's work.”
